The holiday season is a time to care a bit more about others. Earlier this week IES Helsingborg changed to distance learning for grade 7-9, which meant that the school had 300 extra portions of food as the meals could not be cancelled with short notice. The school decided to donate the food for the remaining week to the local homeless shelter, Hemlösas hus in Helsingborg. This Friday, the shelter will have the school’s Julbord on the menu.
“We are always working with our students about kindness and to think of others. We are grateful for the privileges that we have and try to highlight an awareness of those who are less fortunate. We also work towards reducing food waste and taking care of our environment. By donating to the shelter, we lead by example. Helping our students and the wider community to show that even during difficult times, we can support others and make a difference” says Rachel Kjellman, principal at IES Helsingborg.
Together with the schools’ caterers SVEA Helsingborg, the school will continue to deliver meals for the whole week. At Hemlösas hus, the meals will help so many people and were received with joy and gratitude.
