The construction of IES Österåker has begun

English weather and smiling faces at the groundbreaking ceremony for IES Österåker in central Åkersberga. Among the speakers were Michaela Fletcher (M), mayor of Österåker, Per Ronnevik, CEO at Nystad and Jörgen Stenquist, deputy CEO at IES.

“We are very happy to welcome Internationella Engelska Skolan to Österåker, the school will be a great addition to our municipality”, said Michaela Fletcher.

Mr Stenquist, who also lives in Österåker, added: “The new school will complement other schools in the municipality, and add a profile that does not exist in the area.”

More than 1100 children have been placed in the queue to attend Internationella Engelska Skolan in Österåker, including 762 who would like a place when the school opens in August 2024.

The new school will be an F-9 school with two classes per year, including a fritidshem (before and after school care). Existing buildings will be renovated or replaced with brand new, state-of-the-art facilities. The school will include a new school restaurant and an on-site kitchen to make fresh food. There will also be a new schoolyard with extensive opportunities for activities and play.
