Our school is a safe and calm environment where teachers can teach and students learn, and we are committed to helping every child reach their full potential.

We teach using the Swedish national curriculum and just under half of our teachers learned their trade internationally and use English as their teaching language. Our Swedish speaking teachers use Swedish as their teaching language, providing an authentic bilingual experience.

Introduction to IES Södertälje. A safe and orderly school environment where teachers can teach and students learn: Order, structure and safety are necessary prerequisites for learning and signal respect for the value of education. We are strict in norms of behaviour, but also care for our students in our efforts to prepare them for success as adults. We call this “Tough Love”.

We use Swedish and English in our school.

In Year F to 3 we use Swedish and we introduce English gradually, giving students the tools to succeed in their lessons through the English language.

In Year 4 to 9 about half of the lessons are taught in English. Our teachers have a great deal of experience in helping students learn to command the English language, using language immersion.

You can start at our school with any level of English. Our students learn to command the English language quickly.

Apply in just three steps:

  1. Click Join the Queue.
  2. The link goes directly to IES Södertälje application form. Every school IES school has its own queue. You can place your child in the queue from 1 February the year after they were born.
  3. Fill in the form including your details and those of your child so that we can stay in touch and let you know if a place becomes available.

You can only apply via our homepage if your child has a Swedish social security number (personnummer). If your child does not one, contact us via and we will help you.

Because of the way that we are funded we are only able to offer education to students registered as living in Sweden. You can apply for a place for any student who has a Swedish national identity number (personnummer), even if they have not yet moved back to Sweden.

If you do not yet have a Swedish national identity number but are moving to Sweden and would like to apply, please contact us via

We understand that you would like to know as early as possible whether your child has a place. However, it is difficult to give a precise answer before the school completes the intake process. We offer places based on the date on which students joined the queue, but also consider whether they will have a sibling in the school at the same time (syskonförtur).

We usually start our intake process for the following academic year in the autumn term the year before. The length of the process depends on how quickly we hear back from families who are offered places.

If a student leaves school during the school year we will offer this place to the next person in the queue, this could happen at any time.

Contact us via and let us know your child's ID number (personnummer) or Queue ID (is found in the confirmation you received when you applied) and the information of the changes you would like to make.

There are no fees to attend IES schools. Our schools are funded in the same way as those run by the municipality, through the Swedish tax system and the school voucher (skolpeng).
