Our schools are places where teachers can teach and students can learn.  This is possible  because of the strong emphasis Internationella Engelska Skolan places on creating a safe and calm environment which is conducive to teaching and learning. That environment helps everyone to concentrate on their lessons in a secure and focused environment.

IES Östersund is a truly bilingual school.  Overall, across our F-9 classes, 50% of all lessons are taught in English and 50% are taught in Swedish.  However, all of our teachers are expected to be teachers of language and provide bilingual study support resources to aid students’ learning.  In general, in Years 4-9, English, maths and science are taught in English whilst Swedish, SVA and SO are taught in Swedish. Other subjects vary in the language of tuition depending upon our staff profile and student needs.

All of our staff work together with the aim of creating an appropriate learning environment throughout.  This means that teachers need to spend less time and energy reestablishing the preconditions for learning and can instead step into the classroom knowing that their lessons will start on time and then run smoothly and without disruption.  All IES schools train their teachers to use and embed the non-negotiable ‘10 Must Haves’ of classroom leadership so that all lessons are planned and run to a consistent standard for all students.

Our teachers know that they are supported by their subject colleagues, their year team colleagues and their Head of Department and Head of Year.  Our Senior Leadership Team play an active role in visiting lessons on a daily basis and all lessons are run with an open door policy.  Regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions and informal and more formal development talks help all teachers continually reflect upon their craft and benefit from the sharing of best practice.

Whilst teachers form the largest percentage of our staff team - at IES Östersund we are also on the lookout for the very best fritids pedagogues, student care team experts and site and administrative personnel so please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.  The IES Östersund team can only succeed in providing a safe and engaging learning environment by having a diverse and hardworking team of dedicated professionals.
