ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Our Story

Internationella Engelska Skolan in Kista is a bilingual school and has 700 students in years 4 to 9, with two to five parallel classes in each year group.

From 2024 we will be shifting our focus to welcome förskoleklass with 2 classes and then in the future three classes across each year group F-3. This new phase will take 3 years to achieve. The final result will have 880 students with 3 classes in each year group from förskoleklass to year 9. It is an exciting opportunity for our school to nurture our students in this most pivotal period in their lives.

The school has full teaching and extra curricular equipment within its own building. The facilities include two sports halls, a music studio and two separate playgrounds with football and basketball pitches.  The playgrounds are also located within a fully enclosed space in our school building.

As a part of the IES network, we teach approximately half of our subjects in the medium of English, and the other half in Swedish.

Our working language within the school building is English, and we aim to promote the use of the English language wherever possible. We are blessed to have a staff and student body with a background across all areas of the globe, including Canada, the UK, Australia, India, Ireland, the US and many more.

IES Kista is situated in part of the former teaching buildings of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The location, in the middle of Kista’s technology campus, is also a stone’s throw from the large Kista Galleria shopping centre and the Stockholm Metro system linking up with central Stockholm in twenty minutes.

Since its opening in 2015, by the founder of IES Mrs Barbara Bergström, IES Kista has served the local community with high quality education.

The teaching philosophy of IES Kista comes from a core curriculum approach and is based around the three pillars of IES, high academic expectations, a safe and orderly school environment in which teachers can teach and students can learn and command of the English language.
