A staggering 143 IES teachers nominated for Teacher of the Year – now gearing up for Lärargalan!
When students across the country submitted their nominations for Teacher of the Year (Årets Lärare), one thing became clear: teachers at Internationella Engelska Skolan make a tremendous difference. A staggering 143 of our teachers were nominated by their students. It is particularly gratifying that two of them have made it all the way to the national final.
Having so many of our teachers highlighted by their own students is a fantastic testament to the commitment, expertise, and calm learning environment that characterises our schools every day. It demonstrates with utmost clarity the strong bond between our teachers and students – and how much their work truly matters.
Among the 143 nominees, two of our teachers have distinguished themselves in particular. As previously shared, Ms Hester Esteves at IES Hässleholm and Ms Stina Hammarlund at IES Kungsbacka won in their respective municipalities and have thereby advanced all the way to the national final!
On 16 October, the grand final takes place as Lärargalan takes centre stage at the Stockholm Concert Hall (Konserthuset). The gala, organised by the Beata Foundation (Beatastiftelsen), brings together teachers from across Sweden to celebrate the profession and the invaluable impact teachers make every day. Since 2015, the Beata Foundation has worked to elevate the status of the teaching profession through practical professional development, advocacy, and Lärargalan itself – Sweden’s largest celebration of teachers, based on hundreds of thousands of student nominations.
“Receiving over a hundred nominations from our own students is the highest praise we could possibly ask for. It reflects the passion present in our teachers' classrooms every day. Now we're all crossing our fingers for Ms Esteves and Ms Hammarlund at Lärargalan!” says Annakarin Johansson Sandman, Head of Academics at IES.
