IES Falun student impresses: Learned 272 digits of pi with the help of her violin

A student at Internationella Engelska Skolan in Falun is attracting attention after demonstrating an unusual talent. In a feature by SVT, we meet Manisika, who is both a skilled violinist and has an impressive ability to memorise numbers.

In the SVT feature, she confidently recites digit after digit of pi without hesitation. According to reports, she can memorise up to 272 decimal places – something highly unusual for someone her age.

At the same time, she is an established young musician. Drawn to the violin from an early age, she now plays at an advanced level, performs in various orchestras, and has been recognised for her musicianship.

The combination of mathematical memory and musical precision is striking – and perhaps no coincidence. According to the feature, she uses structures and rhythm, similar to musical composition, to keep track of the numbers.

Her achievements have sparked both pride and inspiration at the school.

“We are incredibly proud of Manisika. She shows that it is possible to combine creativity and analytical ability in a remarkable way,” says principal Carolina Browall at IES Falun.

Memorising long sequences of numbers requires regular practice, just as it does to develop musically. Manisika’s achievements serve as an inspiring example of what determination and passion can achieve.
