Students at ten Internationella Engelska Skolan schools are celebrating after scooping the best set of IGCSE results yet.

This year pupils at ten Internationella Engelska Skolan schools took a total of 340 IGCSE exams across a range of nine subjects, including the always popular English as a first or second language, maths and science.

The results saw more pupils scoring the higher grades than ever before, with more A and A* marks across these subjects as well as an overall increase in the number of B grades.

Internationella Engelska Skolan has offered the IGCSE in partnership with University of Cambridge International Examinations since 2009. The qualification is prestigious and globally recognised by employers and universities.

Damian Brunker, Head of Academics for Internationella Engelska Skolan, said: "As well as substantially lifting the international status of the Internationella Engelska Skolan schools, the partnership with Cambridge has provided gifted and talented students with fresh challenges.

"I am very pleased to see both an increased number of students taking these qualifications and the higher grades that they have managed to achieve. Well done to everyone who took these exams, I hope you are as delighted as we are with your grades."

As well as English, Maths and Science, other IGCSE exams offered to students at Internationella Engelska Skolan schools included chemistry, art, English literature, Spanish and French.

More information about the IGCSE exams is available from www.cie.org.uk

More than 1,000 people chose to like the Internationella Engelska Skolan Facebook page during the popular Like It Day.

The online event, on Friday, 26 August, marked the official launch of Internationella Engelska Skolan's new Facebook page and encouraged as many people as possible to like the webpage in one day.

It also included the launch of a competition which will run until the end of September, when one lucky winner will receive their very own MacBook Air, kindly provided by 24 Solutions.

By the end of the day the freshly-launched page had been liked by 1,223 Facebook users, a far cry from the 90 likes the old page had last year.

But the event's effects lasted more than one day and on Monday morning 1,566 people had clicked the Facebook thumbs-up icon to say that they like the page.

The new page features all the latest news from Internationella Engelska Skolan, a place for students to submit videos they have created and exciting competitions.

Jonathan Howell, Media and Marketing Manager for Internationella Engelska Skolan, said: "I was delighted to see so many people flocking to like our Facebook page and I want to thank everyone who took part in the event.

"It's fantastic that so many IES schools got involved. I've heard from staff working throughout Sweden to make sure people had the chance to visit the site.

"A podcast promoting the event from Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet was very a nice touch, and another great example of using the internet to communicate with students, parents and staff in a way which interests them.

"I hope that all those who liked the page continue to be regular visitors, whether they are interested in reading the latest news from IES, looking to submit a video that they have created, or hoping to find another exciting competition."

Of course it doesn't have to be Like It Day for someone to like the Internationella Engelska Skolan Facebook page, which can be found at:www.facebook.com/Engelska.se?sk=app_198740380170776

Anyone can like the page at any time, and the competition to win the MacBook Air will run until Friday, 30 September.

An exciting competition with a top-class prize will mark the launch of Internationella Engelska Skolan's new Facebook page this Friday, 26 August.

On the page facebook users can catch up on the latest news from Internationella Engelska Skolan and submit videos to be in the showcase.

For a month after the launch those who like the page will also have the chance to win a brand new MacBook Air by answering two simple questions.

Jonathan Howell, Media and Marketing Manager for Internationella Engelska Skolan, is hoping that as many people as possible will take part in the event.

He said: "So many people these days are Facebook users and make the website one of their first ports of call on the Internet. By launching this new Internationella Engelska Skolan Facebook page we can provide information about our schools and the company through a popular service that we know people love to use.

"I am looking forward to seeing the competition prize awarded and really excited to see the videos that students at our schools put together."

Until Like It Day those visiting the Internationella Engelska Skolan Facebook page will find a countdown clock where the competition will be. Only when the clock reaches zero will the questions be uploaded and the competition open.

The lucky winner will be drawn at random from those who correctly answer the competition questions. The only people who will not be able to enter the contest will be those who work for Internationella Engelska Skolan or their families.

Parents, staff and students are being encouraged to visit it and click the like button from this Friday, August 26 as part of IES Like It Day.
