Opening Doors to the World: International Opportunities at IES Karlstad

At Internationella Engelska Skolan Karlstad, internationalisation is an important part of the educational experience. Through collaborations with schools and organisations in Sweden and abroad, students have opportunities to develop language skills, intercultural understanding, digital competence, and knowledge of different cultures and societies.

Below is an overview of some of the international initiatives currently available at our school.

Erasmus+ and eTwinning

IES Karlstad participates in Erasmus+ and eTwinning projects through the European School Education Platform.

Through eTwinning, students collaborate online with peers from schools across Europe on shared projects linked to different curriculum areas. These activities provide opportunities to communicate in English, Spanish or French, work with digital tools, and learn about other cultures in a safe and structured environment.

Through Erasmus+, the school is developing international partnerships and mobility opportunities for both students and staff.

Student Exchanges

IES Karlstad offers voluntary exchange opportunities for students studying Spanish and French.

These family-based exchanges allow students to spend time with partner schools abroad and host visiting students in Karlstad. The exchanges provide authentic opportunities to use language skills in everyday situations while gaining first-hand experience of another culture and school system.

Nordplus Junior

The school is currently exploring opportunities to participate in Nordplus Junior projects.

Nordplus supports educational cooperation between schools in the Nordic and Baltic regions. Participation would enable students and teachers to collaborate with partner schools through joint projects, digital activities, and possible exchange visits.

Cambridge IGCSE

Students at IES Karlstad have the opportunity to study Cambridge IGCSE English and Mathematics.

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an internationally recognised qualification offered in many countries worldwide. The courses provide additional academic challenges for students who are interested in pursuing internationally recognised studies alongside the Swedish curriculum.
