Introduction from the Principal of International English Schools Breckland

Introduction from the Principal of International English Schools Breckland

Principal: Ms Sherry ZandI am honoured and privileged that IES has given me the opportunity to join its team as Principal of International English Schools Breckland in Brandon, Suffolk.
IES Breckland will follow the tradition of excellent practice already established within the organisation to deliver an equally outstanding standard of education to children in the UK.

Ever since my study in English was brought to life for me during my A Levels by my all-time favourite teacher, I knew that teaching was the career I wanted to pursue.
Teaching is about learning. Fundamentally I feel that we who work within education must have the passion and vision to develop methods wherein every child matters and all are given the opportunity to learn in a safe and stimulating environment.
As educators I believe our responsibility lies within offering a rounded education, preparing our students for life and all its challenges and showing them the means to open new and exciting doors for themselves.
Throughout my teaching career of 13 years, across both the private and public sectors, my drive has always been to raise standards and expectations.
Students will always remember their teachers; we play an essential role in their development and lives. They do, even though many would not admit to it, look up to their teachers as role models. For this reason it is vital therefore that excellent practice is shared and that staff, like students, are motivated and driven also to want to be the best and pursue their own professional development.
It gives me great personal satisfaction knowing that I have helped many children  and other colleagues realise their potential, raised their self-esteem and made them feel valued.
I am so excited about the prospects that lie before me now. I have been graced with the opportunity to help the students and staff at IES Breckland pursue their ambitions and gain and share the passion I have for life-long learning. Let our journey to success commence.

Internationella Engelska Skolan Halmstad's Principal

Internationella Engelska Skolan Halmstad's Principal

Dear parents and students:

I am absolutely delighted to introduce to you the leadership team for Internationella Engelska Skolan Halmstad. The principal will be Mr. Anders Stålhammar, who is recruited due to his proven managerial and communication skills. Mr. Stålhammar has for several years been closely aligned to our school in Örebro and is a firm believer in our ethos.

Ms. Barbara Bergstrom

Founder and Chairman

New Principal: Anders Stålhammar is set to open Internationella Engelska Skolan Halmstad

Mr. Anders Stålhammar, who has just been appointed Principal for Internationella Engelska Skolan Halmstad by the IES Board, will be working hard during spring to make sure that everything is ready for the school to open in August 2012.

  • I want this school to be full of enthusiasm and of ambitious students achieving their goals in a nice environment, where everybody feels safe and comfortable. I want our children to reach even for things they did not know were possible for them.

Mr. Stålhammar is enchanted by Örjansskolan, which will be the permanent home of Internationella Engelska Skolan Halmstad. He said: "The building is absolutely beautiful; it´s like a cathedral. It would be hard to find a better place in Halmstad for a school." An extensive renovation will see the historic building brought up-to-date, providing first-class facilities for the students, while respecting the heritage of the former school. So, for the first school year, Engelska Skolan will start on a smaller scale in an annex building, renovated this spring.

The new principal is no stranger to Internationella Engelska Skolan and what it stands for. He has seen first hand how the organization works to provide the best for every child. "My son loved his time at Engelska Skolan in Örebro. He met friends who shared his interest in studying and ?" above all ?" adults who helped him learn more, achieve his goals and perform better. Now, I look forward to creating that in Halmstad."

Mr. Stålhammar, who has many years of management experience, will be working closely with his new colleagues to put together the best team possible for the new school. His father Bert Stålhammar is, by the way, a legendary principal and school reformer and professor of pedagogics, so he does not have to go far for some good advice...

  • As for recruitment, I am looking for people who love their profession, are dedicated to it and enjoy it. That is what we need to help create a school which operates at the top level.

When the school first opens in August of 2012, it will take classes in years 4, 5 and 6. It will then grow to become a 4-9 school as the main building becomes available, after renovation, in the fall of 2013.

Principal appointed for new school in Västerås

Principal appointed for new school in Västerås

Dear parents and students:

It gives me great pleasure to give a brief presentation of the new leadership for our school in Västerås. Mr. Peter Ledin is our enthusiastic, passionate and highly competent new principal. He is very familiar with Internationella Engelska Skolan, due to the fact that he during the last four years has been in charge for "School Soft", the internet based communication system used in our schools. Mr. Ledin is an experienced teacher, of Swedish, English and Spanish. He also has teaching qualifications for IT and media communications.

I am pleased to introduce Mr. Ledin to you, knowing that he will give our school in Västerås his all.

Ms. Barbara Bergstrom

Founder and Chairman

Mr Ledin: Principal of Internationella Engelska Skolan Västerås

When excited would-be parents from Västerås made their way to Eriksborg to hear about the new school starting in the city, the Principal had not yet been chosen.

But the front-runner for the position, Mr Peter Ledin, was sitting quietly in the audience. He has now been appointed Principal by the Board of Internationella Engelska Skolan.

Mr Ledin is moving to Internationella Engelska Skolan from SchoolSoft, which runs internet-based communications for schools.

By August 2012, when the school opens to grades 4-9, the former "Vårdcentralen" building at Eriksborg will have been transformed into a brand new school, with all the facilities needed to give children a great education.

Mr Ledin said: "I am looking forward to running a school with the core values of Internationella Engelska Skolan.  I have been working alongside the organization for four years and I have been really impressed by that ethos."

"I think it is important to have discipline but still be friendly.  It's a very good combination."

Mr Ledin has also previously worked as a teacher, and is looking forward to getting back into a school environment.

He said: "I think being able to communicate both verbally and in written form is very important. Therefore, IES Västerås will have a strong focus on communication and the command of languages."

"I started working as a language teacher in Swedish, English and Spanish. I also have a vocational qualification in IT and media communications. So, improving the use of IT as a tool in education is something I will bring to the new school in Västerås."

While overseeing the renovations of the school environment during spring, Mr Ledin will also recruit qualified and committed teachers who will work at the school, as well as other staff members.

He said: "I'm looking for people who really like to teach, people with a positive attitude. Students need to know where they stand and receive feedback in a way that propels them forward. Confidence grows when you work hard and can see the results. It becomes a good spiral."

Breckland Free School: Opening September 2012

The UK based subsidiary of education provider Internationella Engelska Skolan has been chosen to provide educational services for a new free school opening in the UK.

Based largely on its strong educational record in Sweden, IES International English Schools UK has been asked by Sabres Educational Trust to run the Breckland Free School, in the village of Brandon, in Suffolk, England.

When it opens in September 2012, Breckland Free School will be a secondary school providing education for children between the ages of 11-16.

Pupils at the school will benefit from Sabres Educational Trust's philosophy of high educational achievement regardless of wealth or social background, a focus on literacy and numeracy within a diverse community, a strong but fair disciplined approach and a commitment to pastoral care.

Welcoming the news Barbara Bergström, founder and owner of Internationella Engelska Skolan, said: "On behalf of IES, let me state that we are humbled and honored that the Trust has chosen us as education providers for the new Breckland Free School as our core values in education coincide with those of the Trust. IES is founded and managed by educators, with many years of experience in schools.

"In Sweden, where I started Internationella Engelska Skolan in 1993, we have developed into the largest free school organization at the secondary level, with currently 11 200 students enrolled in 20 schools throughout Sweden. Our academic results are far above average, also for free schools.

"We really look forward to having this project, our first in the UK, come to fruition and together create one of the finest schools in the region. We are furthermore thrilled by the many possibilities for student and teacher exchanges between UK and Sweden, as well as bringing the Breckland Free School into our international network, for teacher recruitment amongst other things. It is vital today that we actively bring students into the wider international community."

Jodie King, Manager of IES UK, said: "We believe that we have found in the Sabres Educational Trust a team of highly committed and mission driven individuals who share our philosophy.

"There is much to do to before the School opens next autumn but our professional team are all excited by the challenge. We intend to deliver a school which the Brandon community can be truly proud of."
