Principal’s Summer Blog
We are nearing  the end of our school year and I wanted to take this opportunity to share how proud I am of our students and staff at IES Solna. We have now been open three years and we can see the progress our students have made over these years. Our grade 9 students completed their compulsory school education with a wonderful school prom and graduation ceremony. We will miss them but they are ready to start their journey at high school. The grade 4 - 8 students enjoyed a choice day taking part in various activities including laser tag, picnics and climbing. I would like to thank the heads of house and heads of year for their wonderful support and organisation to help to make the end of term so memorable.

New Term
The first day of school will be Monday , August 19, 2024. More information regarding the start times and program for our opening day will be published on our website and sent to students, parents and guardians in July. Lunch will  be served from day one.  On Wednesday, August 21, we will also hold an important information session for parents and guardians, followed by a class meeting with your child’s mentors for grades 4 & 9.  On Wednesday August 28, we will hold information sessions and class meetings with mentors for grades 5 - 8.

I do ask for full attendance as important information regarding your child's education from the leadership team and mentors will be shared. More information on times will follow in July.

Attendance
School is compulsory for all students to ensure that students have the opportunity to learn and reach their full potential. There are just 178 days for students in Sweden and this is less than most other countries in Europe. I ask therefore that vacations are not scheduled for term time. Permission will not be granted for this purpose.
Over the summer we will be renovating part of the school yard based on the feedback from the students and what is possible in the area that we have available. We have not been able to do this earlier due to the weather during winter and spring and also the disruption that construction has on the yard area including the noise that this creates.

Summer Reading
Ms. Wannerud  will arrange a box of "summer reading"  that the students are allowed to take home to encourage them to read over the break. Please encourage your child to borrow or book or take them to your local library over the summer.

Library - End of Term Book Returns
We can role model reading as staff and parents too.  Maybe share some ideas with us for summer reading for each other and our children! We can share these on instagram

Junior Club
Junior Club will operate for those students who have or would like to enrol from Monday, August 19.  Junior club operates between 13.30 and 17.00 during term time and is mainly for grade 4-6 students.  Students can ”try out” the junior club from August 20th to August 24th, but if we do not receive the resignation form by September 2nd you will be charged for the full term.

I hope you have a wonderful summer break, enjoy the sunshine and outdoors and please encourage your children to read at least one book! I will ask the children to do the same once we begin our learning journey together in August!

Important Dates
August 19th School starts and IES Solna opens for students!
October 8th and 9th : Development talks afternoons (No lessons from 12.00pm)
