Internationella Engelska Skolan Skärholmen is an international school with a safe and calm environment where teachers can teach and students learn.

Welcome from the principal

Dr Margret Benedikz welcomes you to IES Skärholmen

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to IES Skärholmen! We are a dynamic, ambitious school committed to helping each and every child to succeed to the fullest of their potential.

The school is located in a modern, well-equipped building not far from Skärholmen Centrum. At present, we have approximately 630 students enrolled in the school and, now in our 8th year, we are firmly established in the area. Our students are thriving and last year, 95% of our 9th graders qualified for upper-secondary school (Gymnasium)!

Our priority, in keeping with the IES ethos, is to provide a safe and secure learning environment where students can learn and teachers can teach. Young people from around the Skärholmen region face considerable challenges and we are firmly committed to ensuring that every student is inspired, challenged, encouraged and supported. We believe every child can succeed and our highly-qualified team of staff are dedicated to providing an outstanding educational experience.

We follow the National Swedish curriculum but at IES Skärholmen we have a strong international approach: classes are taught in both English and Swedish. Half our lessons are taught in English by native English-speaking teachers. Nevertheless, we also recognise the important role a school plays in its local community.

Academics are not our only focus. We strive to provide excellent pastoral care. To that end, we run a “House” system (Sahara, Atlantic, Amazon and Everest). Each child belongs to a House and this helps strengthen the sense of community in the school.

What you see on our website only gives you a small insight into the work we do. In order to learn more about the work we do, I encourage you to take the opportunity to talk to us about what IESS offers.

On behalf of everyone at IES Skärholmen, thank you for your interest in our school. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Dr Margret Benedikz, Principal
