Our school opened its doors in August 2013 in the newly renovated premises at Storsätragränd 8 in Skärholmen not far from Sätra Centrum. We started with about 450 students and now we have approximately 630 students in grades 4-9 with four parallel classes.
We teach using the Swedish national curriculum and up to half the education in our school is delivered through the English language by qualified teachers from English-speaking countries including South Africa, the USA, and the UK.
Academics are not our only focus. We strive to provide excellent pastoral care. To that end, we run a “House” system (Sahara, Atlantic, Amazon and Everest). Each child belongs to a House and this helps strengthen the sense of community in the school.
We mix students from grade 4-9 to encourage relationships between students of different ages. The school has assemblies for all Houses where positive behaviour is acknowledged. Positive behaviour such as being a good friend is just as important as learning in the classroom.
IES Skärholmen aims to develop open-minded global citizens who actively engage in their community both within and outside school. Through kindness and generosity we, as a learning community, strive to enrich our environment through education and understanding.
