Principal's Letter August 2023

Greetings!

A warm welcome to a new, exciting school year at Internationella Engelska Skolan i Linköping. We would also like to give an extra welcome to our new students and parents. This term we have greeted 80 students in Year 4 and a few students in other year groups as well. I am sure starting a new school can make both new students and parents nervous, but I want to assure you that we are working hard to make everyone feel safe and to offer world class education to our students.

Our first day back on the 16th will be an exciting one - we at IESL are celebrating our 20th birthday! In addition to our regular first-day-back activities, we will also sprinkle in a bit of celebration during the day to mark this special anniversary. You are welcome to come at 08:10 and share in the fun with a cup of coffee and bun as you drop off your child to start the day!

Academic Results

When we review the last school year we are happy to see good academic results. Our students who graduated Year 9 in June had an average meritvärde of 245 points and 90% were qualified for gymnasium. This is great news as we value solid subject knowledge, and the grades show that our skilled staff's work to develop a positive culture around studying leads to good results. We also see good results when it comes to the other year groups and it will be great to see their development during the school year.

Goals and Prioritized Areas

We will put a lot of effort into our systematic quality work during this school year, and at the end of the school year we will evaluate our work. We have decided upon three targets to focus on this year:

  1. Effective staff collaboration
  2. Effective learning - every student learns in every lesson
  3. Consistent student behavior according to expectations

We also want to improve the cooperation between school and different functions within the school as mentors, subject departments, year group departments and SCT (student care team). We will work with improving the learning happening for our students and the safety and calm learning environment in the school.

Parent Meetings

Already by the end of this month, mentors will invite you to the first Development Talk for your child, which will occur primarily on September 13th. Meetings will be in-person, but can occur digitally if your schedule demands. At that meeting you should receive more information about our Parent Evenings, which will occur on October 9th for Years 7-9 and October 16th for Years 4-6.

Bus card

Students must meet the following requirements in order to be eligible for a bus card:

  • Years 4 – 6 if the route to school exceeds 3 kilometers
  • Years 7 – 9 if the route to school exceeds 4 kilometers

If you are unsure if your child is eligible for the bus card, you can log in via the link below and see the distance between your home address and the school.
