As a parent you have the right to make an active choice about where your child should learn, whether you apply to a municipal or a free school.
Popular schools, with more applications than places, use different methods to decide which children will be offered a place. While municipal schools tend to offer places to those who live closest, many free schools use a first-come, first-served system.
In this system those who have the earliest queue date are most likely to be offered a place. IES uses this queue-based system.
Every IES school has its own queue. You can place your child in the queue in the year after they were born, from 1 February.
At a small number of schools - Karlstad, Hässelby, Sundsvall and Örebro - we are taking part in a national trial to give advanced placement for families who have arrived in Sweden in the past two years. If you believe you meet the criteria please contact the school for more information.
