The application window is open all year round, and you can apply to multiple schools at the same time. We admit students on an ongoing basis throughout the year, subject to availability. To apply, please follow these steps:
Click on "Apply here".
Select the school you wish to apply to (each school has its own queue). You can place your child in the queue from February 1st the year after they were born.
Once you click "Apply here", you will be redirected to SchoolSoft’s queue system. Log in using BankID and fill in your personal details.
If you do not have a Swedish BankID, you can instead complete the application form available here.
No, we do not use entrance exams or selection tests for admission to our schools. Places are allocated entirely based on queue time, meaning that the applicant who has been in the queue the longest will be offered a place first.
Yes, you can join the queue regardless of where you currently reside. Please note, however, that we can only offer school places to students who are registered residents in Sweden (folkbokförda). If your child does not have a Swedish personal identity number but you are planning to move here, please contact the relevant school directly, and they will assist you further with the application process.
You can place your child in the queue from February 1st the year after they were born at the earliest.
Please contact the school’s admissions team for more information regarding opportunities to visit the school. Further details about open house days can also be found on each school’s website.
Before the admissions process begins, the school will send out an email to notify you that the process is underway. If you are offered a place, you must respond within the specified deadline. If no response is received, the place will be offered to the next person in the queue.
You are welcome to contact a specific school you applied to for information regarding your current queue position.
Each school has their own queue, and it is unfortunately not possible to transfer a queue position or accumulated queue time between schools. However, you are more than welcome to be in the queue for multiple schools simultaneously. You can easily add another school by logging into your SchoolSoft profile.
You can log into the queue system using your BankID at any time to update and save your details. Within the system, you also have the option to defer your requested start date. If you do not have access to BankID, please contact the school directly, and they will assist you.
No, if you decline an offer, you will forfeit your place in the queue, and the offer will immediately pass to the next applicant. If you change your mind at a later date, you are welcome to submit a completely new application.
Each school maintains its own separate queue. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis, as we believe this is the fairest approach. Sibling priority applies when a sibling currently attends, or has been accepted into, an IES school at the time when the next sibling is due to start. You can easily add the sibling’s Swedish personal identity number (personnummer) to your profile. Please note that being in the queue for, or having a place at, one IES school does not grant you priority at our other schools.
You apply to the school by filling in the application form under “Join the queue”. When the application is received, it will be dated and you will be assigned a place in the line. As a guardian, you will receive an automatically generated email with an ID number sent to you. This ID number is important to save for continued contact with the school. If you do not receive this email, please contact the school as your application may not have been received.
In December 2025, the places are offered in the line order for the coming academic year. The only exception we can give, is if you have more childrens at school, so-called sibling preference. IES Västerås emails the admission notices to those children who may start the next academic year.
In March 2026, invitations to our workshop will be emailed to all admitted students for the following school year. You must RSVP to this event, further information to come. The workshop will be held at IESVästerås on Saturday, April 25th from 10-12, 2026.
In week 10, kommuns are informed of all admitted students in freeschools. After this they will offer all kommunal school places. From week 10 if you accepted enrollment with us, your transfer will be scheduled together with Västerås Stad.
In May 2026, enrollment documents are mailed home to all admitted students. These must be filled in by both guardians and returned to the school. If you have not yet sent in your copy of previous grades/knowledge requirements and a personbevis please add them in with these documents.
In July 2026, information regarding school start and login information for SchoolSoft is mailed home.
