Good afternoon to the entire Internationella Engelska Skolan Community here in Täby. I am delighted to have finally arrived and taken up my new role as Principal.
Before I begin, let me tell you all a little bit about myself. My name is Dr. Anthony Adames. I received my first degree in Foreign Languages from James Cook University of North Queensland and my teaching qualifications from the University of New England concurrently. I also obtained my Master of Education in Teaching Second Languages from the University of Southern Queensland, my International Executive Master of Arts in Leadership and Change from the Hong Kong Institute of Education and my Doctorate in Education at the Education University of Hong Kong. I have taught various languages in schools in Australia and France before arriving in Hong Kong as a Native English Teacher at Po Chiu Catholic Secondary School in 2001. I have also served as founding Modern Languages Head of Department, Vice Principal (School Development) and Secondary Principal at St. Margaret’s Co- educational English Secondary and Primary School before joining Creative Secondary School in 2020. I enjoy learning and teaching languages, travelling, renovating spaces and using technology. I also received the distinction of Knight of the Academic Palms from the French President in 2013 for services to language learning and teaching and am also an Apple Distinguished Educator (Class of 2015).
I am privileged to be at IES Täby. The underlying theme for 2023 can be summed up in three words:
• GOOD • BETTER • BEST
We are a very good school but I will be challenging students and teachers alike to find ways to be better: not just academically but as people as well. I want to build on and extend our caring, respectful and positive school culture. I want to develop considerate and persistent global citizens. It is time for us to rebuild our sense of belonging and community after COVID and to be an even more rigorous school in terms of our expectations of us all. I promise you that in the future, people will envy our students because they have attended Sweden’s Best School.
I am an incredibly supportive but demanding Principal and will not hesitate to reach out to parents and community groups to help our students and staff to reach their full potential in every domain of their lives. I welcome your feedback and opportunities to participate in our vibrant school life. I look forward to meeting you all in the weeks and months to come.
