UNESCO - World book day
World Book Day, celebrated on April 23 by UNESCO, highlights the importance of books, authors, and copyright in spreading knowledge and fostering understanding. The day also honors literary figures like Shakespeare and promotes literacy as a tool to combat poverty and build peace.
On World Book Day on 23 April, UNESCO draws attention to the importance of books, authors and copyright in spreading ideas and knowledge and in contributing to understanding and tolerance between people. Books are one of our most effective tools for working to combat poverty and build peace, and the goal of World Book Day is to encourage authors and fight illiteracy. April 23 is the day of remembrance for several great authors; Shakespeare, Laxness, de la Vega and others.
