Teacher training school

ES Solna is now a VFU Övningsskola

Sharing and developing excellent teaching practices has always been a core part of our culture here at IES Solna, driven by our school goal of "be the best we can be." Now, we are taking this a step further: IES Solna has officially become a training school for university student teachers.

In 2024, Mr. Jiang became a qualified teaching-practicum supervisor (VFU handledare) and began exploring how to build a dedicated student teaching program (VFU verksamhet) at our school. He believed that the high-quality teaching at IES Solna could benefit many more people and make a greater impact on education in Sweden. Throughout the 2024/2025 academic year, he built connections with various universities and welcomed our very first student teachers (VFU students) in two subjects.

For the 2025/2026 school year, Mr. Jiang has led a lead teacher (förstelärare) project dedicated to transforming IES Solna into a teaching-practicum training school (VFU övningsskola). Twelve teachers participated in this initiative, attending training and seminars hosted by Mid Sweden University (Mittuniversitetet). At the same time, we have welcomed four student teachers across five different subjects, and the interest among our own staff in becoming teaching practicum supervisors (VFU handledare) has grown immensely.

Supervising student teachers doesn't just benefit the future teachers, it also brings fresh ideas and strategies directly into our classrooms. It provides a wonderful opportunity for our teachers to continually reflect on and develop their own skills, ensuring they remain the best educators they can be for our students.

Becoming a teaching-practicum training school (VFU övningsskola) is a fantastic recognition of the excellent teaching happening every day at IES Solna. It highlights our deep commitment to continuous learning and development, helping us make IES Solna an even better school for both students and staff.
