ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Career Counseling

Students receive guidance and information that is impartial and individually based on their interests and the questions they have about their future and "Gymnasium" choices.

My name is Mia Wiberg and I am the Study and career guidance counsellor (Studie- och yrkesvägledare) at IES Solna.

I have a degree of Bachelor of Arts in Study and Career Guidance from Stockholm university and started working at IES in August 2025. I mainly support students and their guardians in years 7-9. I am also part of the school's student (senior) care team.

The main purpose of study and career guidance (counselling), is helping students develop career management skills (valkompetens) so that they will have the competence and knowledge needed when making career choices, handling career transitions and other issues related to their current and future studies and careers. One example is Gymnasievalet which takes place in spring term year 9.

In my work I use different methods and tools to help students develop career management skills and learn about the variety of careers and educational paths. Teaching, informing and talking about the world of work and education, ongoing and future changes and needs in society and on the labour market, is a vital part of my job, as is broadening students' perspectives so that they can see more.

Helping students develop a deeper self knowledge, strengthen, motivate and empower them so that they feel confident in managing their career and educational transitions independently, today and in the future, is central in the field of study and career guidance. The guidance that takes place in 1:1 meetings is always adapted based on the student's circumstances and needs and aims to support the students personal development process. Furthermore, study and career guidance aims to actively and consciously promote students' equal rights and opportunities when it comes to education and work as well as ensuring that students' study and career choices are not limited by gender or social or cultural background.

Students and guardians are more than welcome to contact me with any concerns or questions or if you want to learn more about how I can be of support.
