Internationella Engelska Skolan Österåker to open 2024
In August 2024, we will open Internationella Engelska Skolan Österåker. The building permit has been approved, so construction can start soon. The new school, in the former Hackstaskolan building, will be ready next year.

There is a long process to complete before building a new school. The construction of IES Österåker was delayed by several appeals over necessary building permits. Now we can finally start building so the school can open in August 2024.
Jörgen Stenquist, deputy CEO, responsible for establishing new IES schools, said:
“We are very happy to tell you that the school will be able to open in 2024. We know that there is a great demand among families in Österåker for a school with our international profile, and we are happy to offer this.”
Existing buildings will be renovated or replaced with brand new, state-of-the-art premises. The school will include a new school restaurant and an on-site kitchen to make fresh food. There will be a new schoolyard with extensive opportunities for activities and play as well as a fritidshem (leisure time centre). When the school is completed in August 2024, it will be an F-9 school for about 600 students, with two classes per year.
Mr Stenquist, who also lives in Österåker, added: “The new school will complement other schools in the municipality, and add a profile that does not exist in the area.”
