The very first open house at IES Norrtälje was a huge success
On Saturday, February 10th, IES Norrtälje held its first Open House in our brand-new purpose-built school on Sandgatan in the middle of town. Although the weather was a little cloudy, over 400 people came to visit the school during the morning.
Ms Anneli Engvall, Regional Director North for IES, welcomed parents and students in the spacious Aula/Lunch room and there were so many visitors that the audience packed in around the seating of 150 chairs. Headmaster Peter John Fyles talked at length, in English and Swedish, about his vision for the school.
Apart from the obvious IES emphasis on discipline and an ambitious learning environment, Mr Fyles talked about the school’s desire to engage parents and students alike by creating a PTA (Parent Teachers Association) and a Student Union. He then went on to outline a list of factors that would set IES apart from other schools: these included the importance of students being seen, staff ‘going the extra mile’ and all children being welcomed.
Mr Fyles concluded his speech by explaining that more events would be planned at the school, later this spring, long before the school actually begins in earnest in August this year. The visitors were treated to a free ‘fika’ and the day continued with many parents and students asking IES staff questions and everyone taking a walk around the school to get a good impression of what lies ahead on this exciting adventure.
