Students invited to write their names on a mural painting

During the Easter break, all students starting at IES Norrtälje in August were invited to the school to write their names on a wall. At the entrance, the IES art teacher had painted a mural depicting various objects connected to learning, including two bookshelves filled with books. The children were invited to write their names on the book spines and thus leave their mark on the school forever.

The mural is not quite finished yet, but all the children's handwriting in different colours adds a vibrant dimension to the project.
"Inviting the students to sign the wall is part of welcoming all families to their new school and making them feel involved," explained the principal, Mr Fyles. “We have floors, walls, and a roof – now we fill the school with life.”

Many families turned up to sign a book, including Nauman and Beenish with their daughters Fatimah and Aminah who will start at IES Norrtälje in August.
“I am looking forward to having a large schoolyard!” said Fatimah, who just turned 9 and will start grade 3.
The parents seemed happy that the children got a place at the school.
“The children have Swedish as their mother tongue, but we also want them to know English properly. If you understand English, the whole world opens up.”
