Questions about how to apply, what happens next, and how we conduct our intake

Apply in just three steps:

  1. Click Join the Queue.
  2. Choose the school you want to apply for (Every school has its own queue.) You can place your child in the queue from 1 February the year after they were born.
  3. Fill in the form including your details and those of your child so that we can stay in touch and let you know if a place becomes available.
  4. You will get an e-mail with login details. Make sure to save this, as you will need it later on.
There is no exam or test for your child to pass if they would like to learn at an IES school. Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Because of the way that we are funded we are only able to offer education to students registered as living in Sweden. You can apply for a place for any student who has a Swedish national identity number (personnummer), even if they have not yet moved back to Sweden.

If you do not yet have a Swedish national identity number but are moving to Sweden and would still like to apply, you can use this format:
YYMMDD-TF10 (for boys) or YYMMDD-TF01 (for girls).

On our website you can find all the schools we run, or those we have committed to open. If you are interested in a school we have not yet opened, please email and ask to have your email address added to the list of people who would like to be informed if we announce a school in that location in the future.

Our queue runs on a first-come, first-served basis, in the interests of fairness for all. However, if your child has a sibling who currently attends the school, and if both of your children will be students at the school at the same time, then they may be entitled to advanced placement in the queue (syskonförtur). In this case please write the sibling’s Swedish ID number in the appropriate box when applying for any other children.

A number of IES schools are registered at Skolinspektionen for a possibility to dedicate a limited number of places in the queue for students who have been resident in the country for less than two years, in Swedish called "särskild kvot" which is regulated in förordning (2022:222) om särskild kvot i fristående skolor. These schools have the possibility to prioritize newly arrived students in the queue. Enrolling in the school depends on the available free spots in each year group. Please contact the school you are applying to for more information and to ask if they are registered for this possibility.

IES Nacka begins the admissions process in October,  for the following academic year. The length of the process depends on how quickly we hear back from families who are offered places. We will continually send out offers until all the places are filled.

We only admit a full class (total of 150 students) for year 4. For the older year levels (5-9), we can only offer individual places if a student decides to leave our school (leaving an open slot).

We know that everyone would like to know as fast as possible if they get offered a place, but we cannot answer questions about the likelihood of admission or place in the queue.

We understand that you would like to know as early as possible whether your child will be offered a place at the school. However, it is difficult to give a precise answer before the school completes the intake process.

We offer places based on the date on which students joined the queue, but also consider whether they will have a sibling in the school at the same time (syskonförtur).

We will give regular updates on the admission process on our website, and we will post the queue dates for the students to be offered placements.

Each school has its own queue, and it is not possible to move between them. However, it is possible to join the queue for more than one school at the same time.

You can log in to your application using the login details from your confirmation e-mail. However, some things need to be changed by the school. Write to the school in question ( and let us know your queue ID number and the child's name, and the information that you would like to change.

If you are offered a place and decline it, then you will lose your queue position and the place will be offered to the next student in line. If you later decide you would like a place then you will need to apply again and you will not keep your old queue date.

We will e-mail you with queue updates, when you are in the queue. You do need to reply to those e-mails. If you don't, you might be removed from the queue - this will always be stated in the update e-mails. This is to ensure we have current contact details, and current applications in the queue.
