Modern Languages
At IES Nacka we view language teaching as an immersive experience where students are exposed to the modern language from day one. With our passionate team of qualified international teachers who are from or have resided in either a French or Spanish-speaking country, the students get to experience diverse backgrounds and cultures. In our lessons we promote equality, tolerance, deconstructing stereotypes and treasuring diversity while learning about other cultures, ways of living and thinking.
The IESN Modern Language syllabus is tailor-made and the materials we use are a blend of textbooks, IT resources and games attaining all of our student diverse intelligences (visual, auditory, kinetic, etc.). We differentiate our teaching to support and cater to neurodivergent learners as well.
We blend different teaching approaches and styles where our focus is not just teaching grammar or translation, but also communicative and task-based learning. We equip our students with tools to communicate in the modern language effectively giving them the confidence to express themselves in the topics needed to flourish as global citizens.
Over the years, we have had many cross-curricular initiatives with different subjects. In the past we have collaborated with Art, where students researched about artists from French and Hispanic backgrounds. At the moment, we are cooperating with Home and Consumer Studies, where students learn about different cultures and cuisines.
Beyond the classroom, our students can also take part in different projects. For example, they exchange letters with other IES schools or schools abroad, they take part in contests like Språkolympiaden and IES Eurovision, and a selected group have the amazing opportunity to travel abroad with ERASMUS+ LINK
