School trip to Romme 18/1/23

IESL Year 9 Students visit Romme Alpin for PE class in skiing

“We are always searching for new ways to motivate and challenge our students, so it’s wonderful to be able to take our entire Year 9 group for a day skiing at Romme Alpin.”, said Mr John Gillies, Head of IESL’s PE Department. Mr. Gillies went on to note that many of the students have never been skiing previously, so lessons have been arranged for beginners, while experienced skiers can hit the slopes alongside a corps of dedicated staff who have volunteered to chaperone the group.

In previous years the entire school would enjoy a day out on the slopes, but as the school has grown considerably since its founding in 2003 this became logistically impossible. “We are very happy to be able to reward our current Year 9 students with a trip such as this. They are a superb group of mature young adults who have helped the school achieve its goal of being a place where teachers can teach and students can learn.” says the school’s Rektor, Mr. Henrik Svärd. He further noted how the trip serves both a pedagogical function as well as a means of demonstrating the school’s appreciation of the Year 9’s contribution to the school community.

Head of Year 9 at IESL, Ms Lina Yakymenko-Alkaissi, who played a key role in organising the trip, reports that the 100+ students and 20 staff who accompanied them all had an amazing time. “The weather was lovely, the skiing was amazing and I think everyone who participated will remember this trip as a high point of their time at IESL”, she said.

“After all the positive feedback from students, staff and parents we are hoping to once again make an annual ski trip an IESL tradition.”, said Rektor Henrik Svärd.
