Language workshop in the library.

Yesterday we had our first language workshop in the library. During the language workshop the students who want to participate get the chance to practise their Swedish in a calm and helpful way, outside of the classroom.

During the first workshop held by our librarian Ms. Daniele, the students talked about what they want to improve in their Swedish and it was everything from becoming more confident in speaking in Swedish to being able to comprehend what others are saying. When asked why the students want to improve their language skills the answers were everything from them wanting to be able to make new friends and to getting more opportunities.

Research has been done on similar workshops, such as language cafés, and the research shows that these types of meetings are very beneficial when learning a new language, as the participants often feel more comfortable and confident in speaking the language after attending for a longer period of time. It’s not just beneficial to those who want to practise talking but also to those who want to listen and to comprehend the new language.

The language workshop will meet every Tuesday in the library between 14.00-15.00.
