Come meet our new principal!

We have some changes to announce at IES Kista.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I am Mr Brunker, IES Kista’s new permanent principal, and I am delighted to be here! Since arriving I have had the pleasure of meeting your children, both in the corridors and via some year group assemblies. Such wonderful and polite young people! I am certain we have the best students in Stockholm!

If you missed it, you can read more about me here

I am a principal who only wants the absolute very best for our children. I believe that young people need to be seen, heard, lifted, encouraged and praised. However, I also believe that in order to really thrive, young people require order, structure and high expectations. I believe discipline is an outcome that promotes self confidence and success in life. So, with that in mind, we have some welcome changes to announce at IES Kista…

  1. RULES. A revised set of rules with input from the student council. Such things will make our school safer and an even happier place to study.

  2. SCHEDULE. A tighter schedule, so the school days are shorter, with a focus on learning.

  3. CONSEQUENCES. A consequence system to help students understand that society and life are full of rules that need to be respected. If we break them there are consequences.

    1. WARNINGS. A child may receive a warning for breaking a rule following a discussion about their behaviour. Mentors will keep you updated as to your child’s behaviour.

    2. DETENTIONS. If a child receives a total of four warnings in one week, it will equal a detention. You will be informed if your child receives a detention. It means they can be kept behind in school for an hour.

  4. REWARDS. If we do well with the rules and go the extra mile with acts of really good behaviour, like kindness and helpfulness, students can receive a reward in the form of House Points! Students with many House Points may receive awards in assemblies and at end of term ceremonies.

  5. CLOSED CAMPUS. Students cannot leave the school during the school day and strangers are not permitted to enter our school. This is for safety and security.

  6. PHONES. IES Kista is a mobile/device free school. That means phones are collected at the start of the day. They are then given back out at the end of the day. If a child is caught with their phone, they will have it confiscated. They will have to collect it from the admin desk at the end of the day. They will receive a warning if their phone is confiscated. Airpods, head sets etc should be in lockers. They too can be confiscated.

  7. STUDENT INVOLVEMENT. I want our students to be involved in the school. I am looking to build a strong student council as well as recruit some school ambassadors to proudly represent our school when guests visit.

You can come and meet your class mentor as well as me at the coming Parent Evening on September 2nd, 17.00 - 18.30. I hope to see you there!
