The first snow has fallen and autumn has come to an abrupt end, and students and staff have had a well-deserved break from studies and work. Apart from learning, the autumn was punctuated with Halloween dress up day and disco, reading competitions and children’s book week. Our PTA arrived and handed out candy at Halloween - a much appreciated gesture. Fun Fridays have continued, and we have raised money for charity. A big thank you to all who contributed!
The oral national tests in Swedish, English and Maths took place for years 6 and 9 during the snow chaos on November 22nd and 23rd. An intensive two days for students and teachers, but it all flowed smoothly. At the same time year 7 had two days of technology and made marble runs, designed their own rooms using digital tools and made podcasts.
During weeks 46 and 47 years 8 and 9 were out having work experience (prao) and many came back richer for the experience with a better idea of what they would and would not like to work with in the future. Work experience is part of the curriculum and a chance to experience a “real” workplace, gain new experiences and knowledge about the future. During these two weeks the student care and cafeteria staff could show some World Cup on a TV in the cafeteria, and raise money for men’s physical and mental health by selling moustaches for Movember. Again, thank you to all involved!
Now we are in December, fast approaching the end of 2022. Our students (and staff) are working hard to complete all that needs to be done this term before grades are set. Then we end the term with three days of choice and house competitions. In true IES Järfälla spirit we continue to mix work and relaxation: sports clubs continue, book clubs are running and Fridays are the days to wear ugly/colourful Christmas and winter sweaters.
