For the first time in nearly three years, we have been able to invite parents and guardians to the school again, and it has been such a pleasure!
First we had parent meetings, when parents could meet each other and their children’s mentors and receive important information from the school. Then we have had Student-Parent-Teacher conferences, where students, parents, and mentors have the chance to sit down and talk about the student’s academic goals and social well-being for the upcoming school year.
And finally, the math department organized the first in a series of mathematics evenings for parents. These are a chance for parents to learn a bit about different math topics the students work with, and what the expectations are in mathematics now, especially in regards to reasoning and showing the work. Tips for math resources and tools students and parents can use at home are also given. These parent math evenings are very well received, and in a month’s time it will be time for another one, focusing on algebra!
