School choice

School is one of the most important parts of every student’s life. It plays a vital role in your child realising their hopes and dreams, and in shaping who they become as a person.

We believe that by setting the same academic expectations for all children and having clear rules and routines, we make sure they can all succeed, irrespective of background. Our classrooms build on the strengths of traditional educational values.

Passionate teachers deliver well-planned lessons designed for the whole class. At the same time we recognise that each child is unique, so our teachers take account of their strengths, weaknesses, and distinct personality to differentiate when needed.

We’ll see when your son or daughter needs extra help or when they need an extra challenge, and we’ll make sure that they get both types of support.

As parents we’ll ask you to be actively involved in school life, working with us to help your child reach their full potential, in terms of both academic and personal growth.

Internationella Engelska Skolan has been teaching this way since 1993. We open more schools every year, so that more children will have the opportunity to benefit from an IES education.

As a parent you have the right to make an active choice about where your child should learn, whether you apply to a municipal or a free school.

Popular schools, with more applications than places, use different methods to decide which children will be offered a place. While municipal schools tend to offer places to those who live closest, many free schools use a first-come, first-served system. In this system those who have the earliest queue date are most likely to be offered a place. IES uses this queue-based system.

Every IES school has its own queue. You can place your child in the queue from 1 February the year after they were born.

How to apply

Key steps in the form to join the queue at the link above:

  1. Start by entering your child's Swedish social security number (personnummer) in the form yymmdd-nnnn. If your child does not have a valid Swedish social security number, contact the relevant school directly by email or telephone.
  2. If your child has a sibling in the same school, enter the sibling’s Swedish social security number. This gives your child priority in the queue, if there is space available in the school.
  3. Make a language choice, ie the third language your child would like to study at Internationella Engelska Skolan, as well as your child's mother tongue (if not Swedish) and contact information for the child's current school and finally contact information for yourself and any other guardians (if applicable).
  4. After you complete the form, you will receive a confirmation email, stating that your child is registered in our queue with the date of registration. Read the confirmation carefully and save it. When we are able to offer you a place, we will contact you.
  5. Remember to keep the contact information up-to-date and notify the school if you move or change telephone numbers and / or e-mail addresses so that we can reach you to offer space when the time comes. It is the custodian's responsibility to keep the contact information up to date.
  6. At any time you can log in and see your information in the queue. You can do this by going back to the application form and clicking "login" in the upper right. Your login details will be in the confirmation email you will have received when you placed you child in the queue.
