In August 2024, we plan to open Internationella Engelska Skolan Norrtälje in Vigelsjövägen. A new application has been submitted and a decision is expected in the summer.
There is a long process to complete before building a new school. Last summer, the Swedish Schools Inspectorate (Skolinspektionen) rejected our application, saying that we could not demonstrate a sufficiently large interest in IES Norrtälje. Today there are more than 800 students in the queue, and 520 ready for the school opening. A new application has been submitted and a decision is expected this summer. The process has meant that the start of school has been pushed to 2024. In the meantime the contract between IES and the property owner has been signed.
"We know that there is a great demand for a school with our profile among families in Norrtälje", said Jörgen Stenquist, deputy CEO, responsible for establishing new IES schools. "We are happy we will be able to offer one soon, as a complement to the existing schools in Norrtälje."
When the school is completed, it will be an F-9 school for about 600 students, including a leisure time centre (fritidshem). The school will offer two classes per year and is being built with modern facilities, including a restaurant and kitchen to make fresh food on site, a well-designed schoolyard and a sports hall.
