IES Östersund certified by Generation Pep
Health and well-being take centre stage as IES Östersund officially becomes a certified "Pep School". This recognition, initiated by the Crown Princess Couple’s Foundation Generation Pep, is the result of focused work within the framework of the IES health initiative #movewithIES.
IES Östersund operates with high academic expectations and a safe, calm learning environment. The school adopts a holistic perspective where a student’s physical, mental, and social well-being is viewed as a prerequisite for learning and classroom focus. This certification is a recognition of the school’s systematic work in integrating physical activity and healthy eating into students’ everyday school life. Principal Mika Reunanen highlights how the certification strengthens the school’s profile:
"Our commitment to creating a safe and calm learning environment is about more than just structure – it is about seeing the 'whole child'. We know that increased movement and good nutrition lead to better focus and concentration, which directly contributes to our students' academic success and overall health. Becoming a Pep School is a proud validation of our long-term commitment to our students' well-being."
By combining the drive of the health initiative #movewithIES with the expertise of the student health team and the strategic support of school leadership, IES Östersund has demonstrated that student wellbeing is an integral part of the school’s systematic quality work.

The work with #movewithIES focuses on wellbeing as a whole: mental, physical and social health. Examples of the school’s initiatives include scheduled “brain breaks”, which are short movement pauses during lessons, as well as organised break-time activities that encourage physical activity, community and inclusion.
