Board of Directors

The Company's board of directors consists of five members elected by the annual general meeting, including the chairman of the board, all of whom are elected for the period up until the end of the annual general meeting 2024. The unions have appointed two representatives and two deputy representatives.

Per Sjöstrand

Chairman

Born 1958. Chairman of the board and board member since 2023.

Education: Master of Science degree in engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg.

Current directorships: Chairman of the board of directors of Instalco, Green Landscaping AB and Handverksgruppen AS.

Selected previous positions: Founder and former CEO of Instalco. 25 years of experience as CEO of several companies in the construction industry, and as director of major projects within The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket).

Gunilla Carlsson

Board Member

Born 1963. Board member since 2021 (board member also 2017-2019).

Education: Graduate of S:t Lars School, Linköping accounting/auditing program.

Current directorships: Board member in AVPA (African Venture Philanthropy Alliance), deputy chairman of the strategic committee for The Global fund.

Selected previous positions: Member of the Swedish Parliament and European Parliament. Government minister for international Development Cooperation. Deputy chairman of the Moderate Party. Deputy chairman of vaccine alliance Gavi. Director of IFS, NGS, Tundra Fonder and Boxholms Skogar AB.

Robert Clark

Board Member

Born 1954. Board member since 2019.

Education: Teacher credentials from Nottingham University.

Current directorships: -.

Selected previous positions: Principal at the founder IES school, IES Enskede, from 2006 to 2019. Represented Swedish Independent Schools at SKL and Friskolornas Riksförbund Expert Group for School Development. Teacher and member of the Board at the Stockholm International School.

Brian Hatch

Board Member

Board member since 2018.
Born 1981.

Education: Master of Business Administration from Columbia Business School, New York, and BA from Trinity College, Dublin.

Current directorships: -

Selected previous positions: Head of Research at Paradigm Capital AG (current position), Vice President at JP Morgan Chase in New York, Citigroup in London and New York.

Catharina Rosencrantz

Board Member

Board member since 2024.
Born 1955. 

Education: Bachelor degree in economics and business from Handelshögskolan i Stockholm (Stockholm school of  economics). Teaching degree from Linköping University.

Selected Previous Positions: With 30 years of experience in the education sector, her roles have included serving as an upper secondary school teacher and a school politician. She has held the position of chairman of the Children and Education Board Committee in Linköping for two terms and served as municipal commissioner until 2017. Additionally, her experience includes being a board member of municipal companies and the Municipal Executive Board.

Jessica Fryksten

Employee Representative

Employee representative, the National Union of Teachers in Sweden (LR), since 2017.
Born in 1983.

Education: Qualified teacher of history and religious studies, Karlstad University. Practical executive English course, English language Centre, Brighton. Diploma for employee representatives, PTK (the Swedish council for negotiation and cooperation). Sustainability for Board members, PTK (the Swedish council for negotiation and cooperation).

Current directorships: –

Selected previous positions: Teacher since 2008 within municipal and independent schools. Working at IES Gävle since 2011. Chairman of the National Swedish Federation of Teacher's dedicated association within IES since 2016.

Albert Lauschus

Employee Representative

Employee Representative, The National Union of Teachers in Sweden, since 2017. Born in 1970.

Education: Qualified teacher of German, English, mathematics and handicrafts. Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education, Slippery Rock University, University of Gävle, University of Gothenburg. Diploma for employee representatives, sustainability for Board members and cash-flow statements PTK (the Swedish council for negotiation and cooperation).

Current directorships:

Selected previous positions: Compulsory School Teacher at IES Gävle since 2003. Safety Representative at IES Gävle and Head Safety Representative IES Region South (current positions). Local Representative of LR at IES Gävle 2005–2014, LR chairman/Union Representative at Internationella Engelska Skolan AB 2013–2016.

Sally Thornton

Employee Representative (deputy)

Born in 1968.
Board member since 2023

Education: Qualified teacher in Math, Natural Science, Social Science, English and Swedish, from the University of Malmö (2023).

Current directorships: Member of the board of culture and leisure (kultur- och fritidsnämnden) in Värmdö (2023). First deputy on the Board for Sveriges Lärare, IES division (2023).

Selected previous positions: Teacher and local union representative and Safety Officer at IES Värmdö. Previously a union representative and negotiator for the union Kommunal, member of the board for Makalösa föräldrar, and member of the board of Education in Värmdö.

Nicole Wandel

Employee Representative (deputy)

Employee and Safety Representative IES Jönköping.

Born in 1961.

Education: Qualified teacher/trainer in HR Management (Human Resources), English as a Second Language and Business Management.  

Current directorships: Member of T.H.S board - Developing and creating a stronger community within Husqvarna Södra.   

Selected previous positions: Teaching/mentoring, serving as Union Representative, and acting as Safety Officer at IES Jönköping and Folkuniversitet, Ms Wandel previously taught for the Australian Government, focusing on developing awareness and strategies to address homelessness and drug abuse among youths. Before relocating to Sweden, she worked in the advertising industry as a Director with numerous global companies.
