Winter letter from the Principal

As we settle into the spring term, I would like to take a moment to look back at an incredibly productive and energetic start to 2026. At IES Sundbyberg, we pride ourselves on providing more than just a traditional education, and this past month has been a testament to that.

January was a month of movement and teambuilding. Our Sports Days were a great success, filled with joy and school spirit. Year 9 enjoyed an unforgettable ski trip to Romme Alpin, making the most of the winter slopes. Year 4-9 engaged in a variety of activities including ice skating, cross-country skiing, innebandy and more. It was wonderful to see so many students challenging themselves physically and supporting one another.

As I have said so many times before, we believe in preparing our students for life, which includes important social and historical perspectives. That is why Year 8 visited Ungdomsmottagningen as part of their health and social education. Our younger students in Year 6 received visits from the Police and Fältarbetarna, who held engaging and important sessions regarding safety, responsibility, and the local community. Year 7 traveled back in time with a visit to the Tutankhamun exhibition, bringing their history studies to life in a truly immersive way. Also, Jr School continue to celebrate our students successes in the monthly Aula assemblies. It is always so great to see the proud students getting their awards in front of their classmates.

Our overall goal is to give every student the possibility to achieve high academic expectations and aspirations and to navigate through an international environment, whatever their background.
One of the key components of this is teaching our students such a high level of English that they become bilingual. Our Library remains the heart of our school’s academic life. We have seen fantastic engagement in our recent Reading Challenges, where students have been pushing their boundaries and discovering new worlds through literature.

Furthermore, we know that a well-fed student is a focused student. This month, we have celebrated several "Food Wish Days" in the lunch hall, where our kitchen staff served up the favorite meals requested by the students themselves—a small but important way for us to listen to and value our student voice.

Next Theme Day that is coming up is the Valentine’s Day, Friday 13th where we will have a bake sale and dress up day.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to our dedicated staff who constantly go "the extra mile" to organize these excursions and events, and to our students for their exemplary behavior while representing IES Sundbyberg in the community.

We look forward to a continued term of "Grit," "Integrity," and, of course, "Academic Excellence." See you all at school during the SPM and SPT days, 16th-17th of February.

Warm regards,
Mrs Bohlin.
