Thank you to those of you who filled in the Google Form earlier this term regarding your thoughts about implementing grades/betyg in Year 4 and 5. 61% of you Guardians said yes, it is a good idea and you wrote many valuable reasons and comments for us. PTA/Föräldraföreningen was very positive too. In breaks me and Management have asked students what they think and approximately 50% of the students believed they will focus more and take their studies more seriously in the younger years if they got grades.
We have therefore decided to implement grades in Year 4 and 5 from next school year. IES strongly recommends to implement grades in year 4 and the majority of the IES schools already do that.
We believe this will be more clear for the students and you as guardians to see what level your child is at in each subject. The teaching and formative assessment will happen as usual, the most important will still be the learning and knowledge the students get from the lessons. We also believe the stress some students get in Year 6, will not happen since they are already used to getting grades from the start in Year 4.
Today we have told all students in Mentor Time and myself have been in Y4's and Y5's Mentor time to tell them about this and next year is the first time they will receive grades. They had many relevant and curious questions and they seemed to be positive about this.
Thank you again for giving us the feedback and comments in the Google Form as well as continuously throughout the school year. We are still waiting for the Survey results we had in Jan-Feb, as soon as we get them I will communicate them to you and our plans/focus goals ahead.
Hope to see you on Wednesday night when we have the Academic Showcase as well as Intro Evening for the new enrolled families next year. The talent show will happen between 4:30-5:30pm in the Dining Hall with 20 students performing! We are sure it will be a great evening!
