This month we’re celebrating Booktober! A month dedicated to reading, imagination, and the lifelong joy of books! Reading isn’t just a school task, it’s a superpower that opens doors to learning, creativity, and success in all subjects.
We want to make reading visible and fun. Students will see teachers and staff carrying books, asking questions like “What are you reading now?” or “What was the most interesting thing you read today?” and everyone is encouraged to join in!
Families can also take part in simple ways to keep reading alive at home, even with busy schedules: • Choose screen-free time: Set aside a short, fixed time each day, even just 20 minutes, when everyone puts away phones and laptops to read together. • Practice source criticism at the dinner table: Use a morning newspaper, podcast, or YouTube video as a starting point for discussion. Talking about what you’ve read or listened to helps make reading relevant and engaging. • Let them choose their challenge: Encourage children to pick books or topics they’re genuinely interested in, curiosity is the best motivation to read more!
Let’s show our students that reading is not just a school assignment, but a lifelong habit.
