Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for allowing us to be a part of your child’s educational journey at IES Solna.

Earlier this month, we hosted a wonderful Open House, and I reflected afterward on how far we have come in the short time since our school opened. This time, our students actively participated in the event by sharing information with new students and parents. Our Junior Club was opened as part of the experience, and students and staff worked hard to showcase our school. It was wonderful to see so many visitors, and I am extremely proud of our school and grateful to all of you.

Once again, we celebrated Lucia with a traditional and beautiful performance by the choir. Our avslutning ceremonies for each year group were another highlight, providing students with an opportunity to showcase their musical talents. Heads of Year and mentors also spent the final day of the 2024 term sharing memorable moments with their students. Personally, I’ve had a lot of fun over the Christmas period celebrating with the students!

Student Activities
Choice Days took place at the end of the term, and students enjoyed a variety of activities, both on campus and at external venues. These included museum visits and more active experiences, supporting our focus on health and well-being. Our students also participated in math challenges, house activities, and spirit days, culminating in our traditional Gingerbread House competition! Grade 4 students had a successful visit to the Post Museum, while Grade 9s enjoyed a career experience organized by our SYV, Ms. Hollis Daniels.

Books
Please take some time to encourage your children to read over the Christmas break! Ms. Wannerud has been delighted with the growing number of students borrowing books this term, which we all agree is a wonderful trend. Additionally, we have increased the number of physical textbooks available this term and will continue to do so in the future. Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love of reading.

PTA - Parent Teacher Association
As previously communicated, the IES Solna Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has now been formed. You can reach the board members via email at iessolnapta@gmail.com, and I encourage you to join their Facebook group: IES Solna PTA FB Group. We look forward to organizing more events in the new term!

Parent Café
We will host a Parent Café on Wednesday, February 5th, from 17:00 to 18:30. Mr. Jeremy Elder, from our HQ team overseeing student care, will give a talk on gang criminality and support for parents. The presentation will be held in English on this occasion. Solna Police will also organize another parent meeting, as they did last year.
