What happens if you fall through ice?
Year 9 students recently participated in life-saving cold water safety training. This practical exercise in ice rescue helped students build essential skills for staying safe on the ice.
Last week, our Year 9 students took part in a challenging but vital outdoor activity: ice rescue training (isvak). Under the guidance of teachers and staff, students practiced how to react if they ever fall through thin ice. They learnt to use ice picks effectively to get out of the water and understand how the body reacts to cold temperatures and how to remain calm.
The students jumped into an opening in the ice while secured by safety harnesses.
Using ice picks and coordinated movements, they demonstrated their ability to pull themselves to safety.

Even Mr Lutes joined in, taking a swim to show the students the correct technique!

Michael was happy, but cold, after the swim.
We are very proud of our students for their courage and for showing they know how to stay safe and calm on the ice!
