IES Skellefteå Students Take Second Place in Teknikåttan Regional Finals

Students from 8A at IES Skellefteå demonstrated great grit and knowledge as they secured second place in the regional finals of Teknikåttan in Umeå on 16th April 2026.

Teknikåttan is a national competition in technology and science studies for year eight students across Sweden. In the northern region, 114 classes participated in the qualifying rounds earlier this year, with the top six advancing to the regional finals held at Umeå University.

The competition challenged students to apply their theoretical knowledge to practical problems. Working in groups, the students had to:

  • Build sturdy bridges using only bamboo skewers.

  • Solve a complex code to open a locked safe.

  • Compete in a factual card game covering natural sciences.

Knowledge is at the heart of everything we do at Internationella Engelska Skolan. Our students from 8A showed great perseverance, finishing with an impressive 56 points, just two points behind the winners from Högalidskolan.

While the class narrowly missed a spot in the national finals in Stockholm, their hard work was rewarded with 7,500 SEK for the class fund. At IES, we encourage and value effort, as we know that this eventually leads to results.

Congratulations to 8A for their fantastic achievement and for representing IES Skellefteå with such distinction.
