Skolvalet
Our students took part in Skolvalet, a nationwide election for students in upper elementary and upper secondary school.
The election in Sweden is drawing ever nearer, and to teach and encourage our students to use their voice and make educated decisions IES Östersund participated in Skolvalet.
Skolvalet is arranged by MUCF and has been arond for over 60 years. The purpose of Skolvalet is to give our children more knowledge on democracy and the electoral procedure, and any elementary or upper secondary school can participate.
Simply said, the children - just like us adults - gets to vote for the political party they would like to see run Sweden.
In order for this to work and run smoothly, as all of year 4-9 got to vote, a few of our older students helped out. They instructed everyone on how it works, checked off to see voted, counted the votes etc.
They did a fantastic job, and the whole thing ran as smooth as ever!
Our younger students also got to have their voice heard in an election, as Fritids arranged for them to vote on which party should be responsible for the Friday activities: Armbandspartiet, Fotbollspartiet or Musikpartiet.
It was great to see the students so involved, and good practice for the future!
Now we remind the adults of our school - staff, parents, guardians - to vote in the actual election. We teach our children that it’s important to use their voice - make sure you set an example for them by using yours.
