Awards Day
Today IES Östersund held our traditional Awards Day.
Today was our annual Awards Day, where Förskoleklass to year 8 gathers in the aula to see which students get to accept the awards this year. Year 9 also receives awards, but they receive theirs during their graduation ceremony instead of on Awards Day.
For those curious, this is how it works:
There are 6 different awards that the students can receive. There’s Command of English, Helping to Create a Calm and Orderly Learning Environment, Kind and Considerate and The Principal’s Award for Sisu. Then there’s either the Great Lake Monster’s Award for Imagination and Creativity, which is for years F-3, or the Creative Initiative award, which is for years 4-9. The last award is either High Academic Aspirations, which is for years F-8, or the award for Valedictorian, which is given to the student in year 9 with the highest grades.
Teachers and staff at the school can then nominate students for each award. No student can be nominated for or receive more than one award, and for every award there will be one recipient from every class. Ergo, for an award like the Kind and Considerate Award there will be a total of 20 recipients.
The day itself starts with getting the students seated in the aula, where our principal Mr Reunanen and vice principal Ms Norén then presents the recipients of each of the awards. The recipients get to go up on stage where they’re handed an award certificate to thunderous applause from their classmates in the audience, and after posing for a few pictures they go back to their seats.
It’s a fun and rewarding day for students and staff alike, and the best part is seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces!
Congratulations and good job to all the recipients of an award!
