Year 8 Ski Trip

New heights and high spirits at Romme Alpin! Read more about our first annual Year 8 ski trip.

While most of our students  were still hitting the snooze button on the morning of January 29th, the Year 8 students were already embarking on their biggest adventure of the term. At 6:30 AM sharp, the school parking lot buzzed with anticipation as students loaded their gear, ready for a full day of action at Romme Alpin for our first annual year 8 ski trip.

The trip offered a perfect balance of challenge and thrill, regardless of the students' comfort level on the snow. For those with previous experience, it was an opportunity to sharpen their skills on Romme’s diverse terrain, carving through the well-groomed runs and taking advantage of the resort's famous high-speed chairlifts to maximise their time on the slopes.

Meanwhile, for those trying skiing for the very first time, the day was an exciting introduction to winter sports. These beginners showed incredible grit, transforming early-morning wobbles on the beginner slopes into confident glides by the afternoon.

"One of the highlights for me wasn't just the skiing itself, but seeing the way the students looked out for each other. Whether it was helping a friend get their skis back on after a spectacular wipeout or cheering each other on at the lift, that sense of community was definitely the win of the day".

 - Mr du Toit, Head of Years 7-9

A trip of this scale requires a mountain of logistics and an immense amount of dedication. A massive shout-out goes to Ms Aspgren for her tireless work in organising every detail of the excursion. We also want to extend a huge thank you to all the accompanying teachers who spent their day on the mountain. Their presence provided more than just supervision; they were there to tighten boots, offer encouragement on the chairlifts, and share in the students' triumphs. Their support was essential in making the day both safe and unforgettable.

Located just outside Borlänge, Romme Alpin has grown into one of Sweden’s premier ski destinations. It is particularly popular for school trips due to its proximity to Stockholm, usually sitting about a two-and-a-half-hour drive away. This allows for a "full mountain" experience without the need for an overnight stay.

The exhausted but happy group returned late in the evening, with rosy cheeks and plenty of stories to tell. It was a day defined by fresh air, physical challenge, and fantastic school spirit. Well done to all of Year 8 for representing the school so well on the slopes!
