Meet House Tunaborgen Captain Lily Green at IES Österåker

Meet Lily Green, House Tunaborgen captain at IES Österåker. She shares insights on house pride, student culture, and creating a safe school environment.

At IES Österåker, the house system builds a positive school culture where students across all year groups connect. Older students act as role models, helping create a safe environment where everyone belongs.

Our three houses reflect the local history and nature of Österåker. House Tunaborgen, represented by the color red, draws inspiration from the local 13th-century fort ruins. Its shield features the boar symbols of Freyr and Freya, representing peace, happiness, and strength.

Students earn merits daily by demonstrating the PRIDE values:

• Positive: Spreading encouraging energy in the hallways.

• Respectful: Valuing knowledge, the school, and each other.

• Inclusive: Being a supportive friend to all peers.

• Dare to Excel & Engaged in Learning: Showing drive and grit in their daily studies.

These daily efforts contribute to the House Trophy standings, culminating in energetic sports days and house competitions. Behind each house are dedicated staff house captains and student house leaders who represent student voices on the student council.

House Captain Spotlight: Miss Lily Green

Miss Green teaches home and consumer studies (hem- och konsumentkunskap) as well as crafts for years 2 and 3. Originally from Indiana, U.S.A., she has been with IES Österåker for two years.

Outside the classroom, Miss Green is learning Swedish and guitar. She shares a unique connection to her house:

• House Identity: "Tunaborgen represents safety and strength. As protectors of our school, we foster growth in learning and safety for everyone."

• Favorite Competition: "The Melodifestivalen event is my favorite. It is fantastic to see students and staff dress up and vote on their favorite entries."

• Message to Students: "Make new friends within your house this year. We are stronger together and will rise to the top as we support one another during house challenges!"
