Welcoming New Students to Fritids at IES Österåker

A new fritids term begins on the 3rd of August at Internationella Engelska Skolan Österåker. We are excited to welcome both returning students and our new kindergarten class.

The start of the autumn term (HT26) is quickly approaching! On Monday 3 August, our  fritidshem officially opens its doors for the new term. This is an exciting milestone as our returning students officially move up to their next year group, and we welcome new families joining our school community.

To ensure our youngest learners in the new kindergarten class have a smooth and comfortable transition, we have organised two dedicated half days:

• Monday 3 August (9:00 - 12:00)

• Monday 10 August (9:00 - 12:00)

These shorter days at the beginning of each week are designed to build confidence in the new environment, helping children feel secure before transitioning to full-week attendance while parents and caregivers return to work.

Schedule for Kindergarten Half Days:

• 09:00 - Arrival: Check-in and choice activities in the K–1 fritids room.

• Morning Session: After parents and caregivers depart, students gather in their classrooms for organised activities led by our fritids teachers, followed by outdoor play.

• Lunch & Afternoon: A nutritious lunch in the dining room, followed by outdoor playtime.

• 12:00 - Pick-up: The half day concludes outside on the back schoolyard.

Tips for a Smooth Transition:

Transitioning to a new school environment is a big step. It can be filled with anticipation and, occasionally, a few nerves (for both children and parents). Here is how you can help:

• Engage together: On arrival, help your child select an activity and facilitate interaction with other classmates and staff.

• A swift goodbye: Once your child is actively engaged, this is a good time to say goodbye quickly and confidently.

• Trust our team: Our staff are highly experienced in supporting children through transitions and creating a safe, calm, and nurturing environment.

While our new preschool class begins their journey, the school halls will soon fill with the vibrant, excited energy of all our returning students preparing to start in their new classrooms on 17 August.

At IES Österåker, our fritidshem is more than just a place of recreation; it is an educational springboard. Under the leadership of our fritids curriculum lead, Ms Rabbani, and our dedicated team, we extend learning beyond the classroom to inspire lifelong curiosity.
