An Egg-citing Cross Curricular House Day at Österåker
Spring was officially welcomed on Thursday 2nd April as students participated in our second annual Cross-Curricular House Day. The atmosphere was certainly "egg-citing" as the whole school gathered for a day of academic discovery, friendly competition, and a celebration of our vibrant school culture.
The day focused on the power of vertical groups, which saw classes from two different year groups working together in teams. This also gave our Year 8 students a brilliant opportunity to demonstrate leadership by mentoring their younger peers as they navigated various challenges side-by-side. Whether representing Alcea, Tunaborgen, or Vasa, students showed great grit and spirit throughout the event.
The curriculum activities were designed to test both wit and teamwork. Students scoured the grounds for a language-based egg hunt and applied their physics knowledge to some high-stakes STEM engineering challenges. While some egg-based inventions survived better than others, the focus remained on collaboration and problem-solving. Between the maths challenges and a high-energy obstacle course, there was hardly a moment for anyone to "shell-ter" from the action.
The excitement reached a peak during the house competitions, where the highly anticipated tug of war and the Easter bonnet parade brought out the best in our students. Even the school leadership joined the fun, with Ms Pousette and Ms Aspgren dressing up as eggs to celebrate the term. It was a wonderful way to reinforce our commitment to a safe and calm environment where Alcea, Tunaborgen, and Vasa can compete with pride and support one another across all ages.
