Who is Helena Björkman?
It's time to get to know all the teachers and staff who will meet the students at IES Norrtälje in the autumn! Next up is Swedish and social studies teacher Helena Björkman, who has two German Shepherds and 13 horses.
What did you do before you started at IES Norrtälje?
Before joining IES, I was employed by the Norrtälje Municipality and taught for 28 years at Roslagsskolan in Norrtälje.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is facilitating learning processes and watching students learn and develop in all aspects.
What are you most looking forward to when the school has opened?
I look forward to meeting the students and sharing my knowledge.
Which one is your favourite song right now?
My favourite song right now is ABBA's "Don't Shut Me Down".
Do you have any pets?
I have two German Shepherds and 13 horses.
Tell something about yourself not many people know.
My bucket list is still very long.
What was your favourite subject in school?
My favourite subject was history.
Do you have any dreams for the future?
I have many dreams for the future, including going horseback riding in Iceland.
What do you do outside of work?
I take care of my pets, see my grandchildren, and visit flea markets.
What do you do to peak the children's interest and desire to learn new things?
I show them things I'm interested in, that is, my subjects.
What is your favourite memory with your students?
I have many fond memories with my students. One of my goals has been for them to have the grades to get into their first choice in upper secondary school. Every year, I have managed to guide all of my students into programmes they wanted to enter.
