Model Club Takes Shape at IES Norrtälje
On Friday afternoons, a small group of students gathers for one of the school’s newest creative activities — Model Club. The club gives students the opportunity to build detailed models, collaborate with friends, and explore their interest in design and construction.

Although the club is still quite new, the students involved are already enthusiastic about the experience. “We’ve been part of the model club for about three weeks,” one student explained, noting that even in a short time the group has made strong progress on their first project.
Their current build is a model of the historic battleship Prince of Wales. The students are working together as a team to assemble the model piece by piece. According to them, collaboration has been an important part of the process. “We work together,” one student said simply, while another added that teamwork makes the project easier: “It’s easier than working alone.”
Despite only having worked on the project for two weeks, the group feels proud of how far they’ve come. “We have progressed quite far for two weeks of working on the Prince of Wales,” one student explained.
When asked what they enjoy most about the club, the answer was straightforward. “The building itself,” one student said. For many of the participants, the process of constructing the model is just as rewarding as the finished result.
Looking ahead, the students are already imagining what Model Club could become. Some hope to expand into other types of models. “Maybe we could do airplane models or submarine models,” one student suggested. Others are hoping to increase the complexity of their projects. “Maybe bigger and more detailed,” another student added, explaining they would like to build “less Lego models and more plastic with details.”
There are even bigger ideas for the future. When asked if robots might be something they would like to try, one student responded enthusiastically: “I actually like that idea. That sounds cool.”
As Model Club continues to grow, it is clear that the students involved are enjoying both the creativity and teamwork that the activity encourages — and they are already dreaming about the next projects they might build together.
