Science at IES Nacka

At IES Nacka our lessons are not just about facts, but about learning to think critically, analyze sources, work together, and understand how humans and nature are connected. Our teaching emphasises democracy, equality, ecological sustainability and ethical issues and we aim to build these values into our everyday teaching.

We believe that hands-on practical experiences in science are important. We split classes in half once a week for science labs. In our three dedicated and equipped science labs students carry out experiments, collect and analyse data, use various digital tools (including basic programming skills), and learn how to communicate their results clearly. In these smaller groups, students can work more safely and receive closer guidance from the teacher. 

The science department also works to strengthen their literacy in science: they practise reading scientific texts, building vocabulary, and writing explanations and reports in a clear, structured way. Assessment is based on how well each student meets the national learning goals, and feedback is designed to help every child progress from their own starting point.
