Our Commitment to Fundamental Values (Grundläggande värden)

At our school, the Grundläggande värden—democracy, human rights, equality, and respect for each individual—are not just words in a document. They are the foundation of everything we do, guiding our teaching, our relationships, and the way we shape our school environment.

Art

Welcome to the Art Department at IES Nacka!

Expression. How you feel about something. What is your personal connection to the work you are creating?  You are creating something that has never existed before, and because of that work, the uniqueness of the project is reflected in the uniqueness of the individual.  These attributes are fundamental to our teaching here at IES Nacka, in our strive to foster creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts for our students. We believe that art is more than just making things; it's a powerful tool for self-expression and understanding the world around us.

We are dedicated to promoting ethical values like fairness, equality, and inclusion. We achieve this by exposing students to a wide range of artists from different cultures, backgrounds, and historical periods, ensuring that all students see themselves reflected in the art we study. We also create a safe space for students to discuss challenging topics and explore themes of social justice through their artwork.

Our students explore and experiment with many different mediums in project based artworks, from normal pencil drawings to acrylic paintings and sculptures. With a computer in class for every student, we also cover art in the tech world – opening up this 21st century art form to all students.

Our Projects

  • Grade 4 & 5: Art Elements: Students learn the foundational building blocks of art: line, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space.

  • Grade 6: Puppet Making: Students create their own puppets, combining sculpture with storytelling.

  • Grade 7: Skills and Techniques: This grade focuses on developing technical proficiency in various media, including drawing and painting focusing on value and color mixing.

  • Grade 8: Art History and Music Video: Students explore art history by analyzing historical movements and applying those concepts to modern media by creating their own artwork based on an art movement. They also explore digital creativity by producing their own music video.

  • Grade 9: Art History Self-Portraits and Site-Specific: Self-portraits to explore different techniques and styles to produce their artwork. Students create site-specific art, considering the environment and personal connection to what they want to express.

Our Year 9 artists are asked to create a self portrait inspired by an artist.

The final project in Year 9 is about creating art in the public spaces of our school.

In Year 7 our artists work with print making and collage to create original pieces.
